Dr. Thomas Fuchs, Institut für Strömungsmechanik und Aerodynamik, Fakultät für Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik hat das Projekt „Development of particle imaging methods for near-wall flow measurements in air and generation of CFD validation data sets for aerodynamics“ bei der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft e. V. (DFG) eingeworben.

Numerical methods are powerful tools in aerodynamic research. However, challenging flow environments such as high Reynolds number flows and separated flows, for instance, require reliable experimental validation data sets. In this project, experimental tools for near-wall flow velocimetry are developed to accompany the ongoing developments in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
To do so, wall-shear-stress measurements are conducted on the "Speed Bump" model, a test case designed for developing CFD codes for separated flows with a complex three-dimensional structure. These experimental results serve as a basis to further improve numerical methods for aerodynamic design tasks.
