M4P Showcase – The Challenge of Digital Peace-Promoting Journalism in a Contested Information Environment
Crises nowadays unfold simultaneously on the ground and in the information environment. Manipulated narratives can deepen social divisions, distort public understanding and erode trust in institutions; often before the full consequences become visible. Meeting this challenge takes more than detecting falsehoods: it demands credible journalism, technological insight and a deeper understanding of societal resilience.
For six years, Media for Peace (M4P), a research and development project funded by dtec.bw (German Federal Ministry of Defence / NextGenerationEU), has addressed these questions at the intersection of journalism, peace research and artificial intelligence. As the project concludes, this Showcase brings its findings into direct dialogue with those who can put them to work.
Designed for decision-makers from government, the armed forces, European and allied institutions, the media, industry and civil society, the Showcase moves beyond the conventional research conference. Participants will examine working prototypes, hear the evidence behind them and confront the strategic dilemmas of an evolving information crisis. A concluding Future Lab will identify priorities for policy, practice and future collaboration. The programme is followed by a hackathon on foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) and open-source intelligence (OSINT), organised in cooperation with the European Defense Tech Hub (separate registration).
