Compulsory Language Courses
Compulsory Language Training in English and French
Participation in foreign language training is compulsory for all officer cadets and officers studying at Bundeswehr universities (see the decree of the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr dated 10 August 1988).
The aim of compulsory English language training is to maintain Standardised Performance Profile (SLP) 3332 or to achieve a higher SLP (see the “Principles for Foreign Language Training in the Armed Forces” issued by the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr on 22 April 2010).
NATO English Courses

In addition to the compulsory English language course, all students may enrol in a French language course in order to obtain an SLP in this foreign language as well. Students who score at least 150 points in the English placement test have the option of taking French – as an alternative to English – as their compulsory language. However, even in this case, the SLP examination in English must be taken before leaving the university.
Detailed information on the delivery of compulsory language training can be found in the "Information Sheet on Foreign Language Training During Your Studies", published by the Student Services Department and the Language Centre".
