GalileoFusion - Forschungs- und Studienvorhaben für Innovationen des Galileo GNSS-Systems

The overall objective of the project "Forschung- und Studienvorhaben für Innovationen des Galileo GNSS-Systems (GalileoFusion)" is to support the improvement of the European satellite navigation system Galileo and to develop the tools necessary for this purpose. Therefore, research and study projects are to be carried out to enable a substantial improvement of the Galileo GNSS system. To achieve this objectives, a three-step approach is deployed:

  1. Investigation of authentication possibilities on system level (NMA/SCA) as well as receiver level (MEA) with an experimental breadboarding.
  2. Preparation of navigation-relevant scientific results for implementation in operational use (radio-frequency interference issues, GNSS/5G integration, positioning with LEO mega constellations, multi-tone signals, acquisition of signal).
  3. Participation in the working groups of the European Commission (EC) in order to make relevant contributions with the results obtained from the project, as well as the support of German ministries, authorities and agencies.

In the project our Institute actively contributes technically to several working groups of the European Commission (EC). Our EC working groups are “Compatibility, Signals and Interoperability” (CSI), “Commercial Service” (CS),  “EGNSS Evolution” (EE), and “EU GNSS Interference  Task Force” (EGITF).

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur – BMVI) nominated Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Bernd Eissfeller to represent Germany in the working groups to support the EC with the development of the global satellite navigation (GNSS) project “Galileo” and to preserve at the same time the German interests.
