The article “Balancing Role Paradoxes: Developing a Paradox Mindset Among Women Leaders in the Military” by Stefanie Acksteiner, Hendrik Hüttermann, and Alexandra Jussli has been selected as one of the best research papers at this year’s Academy of Management (AOM) Conference. The AOM Annual Meeting is the world’s leading conference in the field of management and organizational research and will take place this year in Philadelphia, USA.
The paper presents the findings of a current research project conducted at the Chair, which explores how individuals develop a so-called paradox mindset – that is, the ability to productively navigate contradictory demands and expectations in everyday work. While the positive effects of a paradox mindset on motivation, learning, and performance are now well established, little is still known about how such a mindset emerges and which factors foster its development.
The research project examines these questions in the context of women leaders in the military. They are often confronted with contradictory role expectations and therefore provide a particularly suitable context for investigating the emergence and development of a paradox mindset.
The paper is available upon request for interested readers.
