Institute team presents current research at ICED25 in Dallas

26 November 2025

From August 11 to 14, 2025, a team from our institute participated in the renowned 25th International Conference on Engineering Design (ICED25) at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), Texas. ICED is one of the world's leading conferences in the field of design and product development and offers an excellent platform for international scientific exchange. Our team, consisting of Emir Gadzo, Alexander Schlegel, Florian Günther, and Alexander Koch, was represented with several contributions and was able to present current research results to an international audience of experts.

Florian Günther gave a presentation on “Current challenges in the development of products for additive manufacturing – an interview study.” In his presentation, he highlighted the current challenges in the development of products for additive manufacturing and presented key findings from an interview study with industry partners..

In the presentation “Enhancing knowledge transfer through LLM-based applications: A preliminary study,” by Alexander Schlegel presented initial findings on the use of large language models (LLMs) for improved knowledge transfer in product development. The approaches presented met with great interest and led to lively discussions about the potential of AI-based methods in engineering.

Emir Gadzo presented his paper “Reducing uncertainties in data & information – an ontological approach to support satellite development projects.” In it, he showed how ontological methods can help reduce uncertainties in data and information, thereby making the development of satellite projects more efficient.

The team also presented a poster in the conference marketplace. The poster, entitled “Agile Principles in Hardware Development: Unlocking Potential for Direct Manufacturing,” was very well received by the expert audience and sparked numerous discussions about the transferability of agile principles to hardware development.

The excellently organized conference was rounded off by a varied supporting program, including a welcome reception in a typical American university sports hall and a festive conference dinner at the famous Southfork Ranch. Participation in ICED25 provided our team with valuable inspiration and numerous new contacts for future research projects.
