Like the “water curtain” setup, the snow fence can be used to examine how test subjects react to and avoid an obstacle. A commercially available snow catch fence is set up at the side of the road. The far end of the fence is suddenly pulled into the vehicle’s path with a bungee cord. This prompts the test subject to swerve in order to avoid this sudden obstacle.

The entire fence/cord construction is very lightweight and elastic so that driving over it will not cause serious damage to the test vehicle.
