The EUROCAST 2024 conference paper "The Application of Named Entity Recognition in Military Intelligence" by Christian Nitzl, Achim Cyran, Sascha Krstanovic and Uwe M. Borghoff has been published in Lecture Notes in Computer Sciences by Springer.
The study examines the potential added value of Named Entity Recognition (NER) in the military analysis process. Among other things, NER can be used to identify times, places, organisations and persons in texts. On the one hand, the results of the study show that the use of NER in military information processing can add value. On the other hand, it is clear that this added value needs to be increased through more precise tagging. The military analysis process is a highly sensitive area that requires a high degree of NER maturity.
