Participation of the CCEW at ML4EO 2026

2 Juli 2026

The Center for Crisis Early Warning (CCEW) was represented at the Machine Learning for Earth Observation (ML4EO) Conference 2026, held from 22–24 June at the University of Exeter, United Kingdom.

The conference brought together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts from around the world to discuss the latest advances in machine learning for Earth observation. The programme featured keynote talks, technical sessions, poster presentations, and hands-on workshops covering topics such as geospatial foundation models, remote sensing, environmental monitoring, spatial machine learning, and AI applications for Earth observation.

As part of the scientific programme, Clara Clipea presented the paper "Evaluating TerraMind for Conflict Damage Mapping Using Sentinel-2 Imagery," highlighting the potential of Earth observation foundation models for conflict damage assessment. The presentation contributed to bridging the fields of Earth observation and conflict research, demonstrating how recent advances in geospatial AI can support conflict analysis and strengthen approaches to crisis early warning - an area that remains comparatively underexplored.

Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge with the international research community, explore emerging developments in geospatial AI, and establish new contacts for future collaboration.
