Business Wargaming in the Financial Sector – Article Contribution in ReThinking Finance
10 October 2025
Personal experiences play a central role in our decision-making. Both our individual background and the position we hold within an organization significantly influence how we approach decision-making situations. Relying solely on historical data and key figures—particularly when it comes to strategic decisions—is often insufficient. Moreover, decisions must always be viewed in the context of interpretations and actions taken by other stakeholders.
For the October issue of ReThinking: Finance, titled “Finance & Strategy – Approaches and Instruments for Strategic Decision-Making”, Sascha Geißler, Aline Werro, and Christian Nitzl (all CISS) contributed the article “Wargaming – Tackling the Future Through Play: Exploring New Paths in Strategic Financial Management”. The article focuses in particular on the soft factors of wargaming and highlights the value this strategic management tool can offer in the financial sector.
In addition, the article presents a brief example illustrating how a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) can use a wargame to generate strategic impulses for addressing the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in a highly competitive market environment.
The article is available via the ReThinking Finance website or directly here or via WISO.
