New database on the involvement of non-state actors in armed conflicts

The paper "The Commercial Military Actor Database" co-authored by Vanessa Gottwick, Research Associate at KompZ KFE, published by the Journal of Conflict Resolution presents a new dataset to support research on commercial military actors (CMAs) and civil wars. The dataset covers private military and security companies (PMSCs) and mercenary involvement in armed conflicts from 1980 to 2016 in all regions of the world apart from Europe. The dataset specifically seeks to facilitate investigations into CMAs, their relationships with clients, their impact on conflicts, and the prospect of peace.
