Usable Privacy in MR

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich is seeking to fill a position at the CODE Research Institute as

Research Associate (m/w/d) | E13 TVöD

We invite applications from excellent candidates to work with us on the DFG-funded project PriMR. The project
will explore aspects related to human-centered privacy in Mixed Reality.

Research Environment

Successful candidates will work in the Usable Security and Privacy Group (https://go.unibw.de/usec). We explore
novel, human-centred security & privacy concepts that blend with how humans naturally interact with computing
systems. Application areas include MR, Behavioral Biometrics, Smart Environments, and Social Engineering.

The research group is part of the CODE Research Institute. Researchers at the institute investigate cybersecurity
in all its facets, bringing together experts from different scientific disciplines, industry and the authorities. The
institute contributes technical innovations and concepts in cybersecurity to protect data, software and systems.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Media Informatics or a related discipline
• Experience with conducting research in Mixed Reality (AR / VR) and/or usable privacy
• Strong programming skills (preferably Unity)
• Experience with user-centered design and conducting user studies
• Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (for example, demonstrated by published work
or a master thesis)
• Critical thinking, quality-oriented and independent work, professional commitment
• Willingness to learn and to cooperative

Areas of Responsibility

• Conducting independent research within the project, with a particular focus on preparing a dissertation
• Publishing research results in scientific conferences and journals
• Participate in international conferences to present research findings / increase CODE’s visibility
• Assistance in organising and conducting scientific events
• Contribute to teaching activities

Applicants are required to submit the following: a cover letter outlining the motivation for pursuing a Ph.D. degree; a detailed CV with certificates and evidence of experience in the academic and scientific field (including a list of publications, if applicable); a summary of the Master's thesis; and an indication of 2 potential references.

Interviews will start March 15, 2024 but applications will be considered until the position is filled. Planned start of employment: May 1, 2024. Duration of employment: 3 years (extension possible).
