Unserem ehemaligen Wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter Herrn Dr.-Ing.

Study-Award by ITIS e.V. UniBw Munich 2005 (December 16, 2005)

Our graduate of the study-course 2002 Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Phichianrat Parunnit from Thailand has been awarded the ITIS Study Price at the UniBw Munich for his excellent diploma thesis Dec. 16, 2005.
In the following is the laudation speech given by Mr. Vice-President Univ.-Prof. Dr.rer.nat. habil. Uwe Borghoff:
Thai citizen Mr. Parunnit has made the extraordinary achievement of graduating in electrical engineering after only 3 1/4 years.
In his diploma thesis titled “Evaluation of the course of torque of the PM traction machine PM-V1 by means of d-q-parameters determined by numerical FEM-calculations (ANSYS) and comparison with other FEM-based calculation methods” he has performed outstandingly. The findings of this diploma thesis are an essential part of the work for ITIS-project No. 95 (“Research at the electrical drive of hybrid vehicles”).
In his thesis, Mr. Parrunit has examined how the course of torque of a permanent-magnet excited electrical machine can be calculated using the Finite Elements Method (FEM). The program ANSYS has been used as tool. The methods compared are:
- FEM-calculation of the electrical machine’s d-q-parameters and herefrom determination of torque;
- Torque-calculation via the Maxwell-stress-tensor;
- Calculation of torque based upon the variation of magnetic co-energy depending on the angle of rotation.
A special difficulty occuring in these analyses was the necessity to account for saturation of the magnetic circuit as the example of use is a highly exploited machine. Mr. Parunnit’s work has lead to new findings considering torque-generation in permanent-magnet machines under the influence of saturation.
Mr. Parunnit treated the task given to him with great assiduity and in doing so, he has proven detailed knowledge. He provided very valuable contribuation to the highly up-to-date matter of electrical drives of hybrid vehicles. He showed goal-orientedness, extreme competence and he worked very successfully.

Study-Award by Förderkreis der UniBw Munich 2002 (December 18, 2002)
