Android based GNSS/IMU data logger for Smartphone

With the release of Android N, Google announced the availability of GNSS Raw data from the mobile phone. This opens up to the broader prospective for research, analysis and enhancement of the positioning quality in mobile phones. With increasing applications based upon augmented reality, e-banking, e-health, etc., there is a rapid increase in the demand for precise positioning using the existing architecture of mobile devices.

In the series of this task, we would like to invite student for master thesis work for the development of Android application for logging GNSS and IMU data from the smartphone. The basic working version of the application will be provided to the student for further extension and adding new features.

 

 

 

 

The important steps for this thesis includes:

  • Understanding the Android studio Development Environment
  • Understanding the existing code for further extension
  • Implementing and integrating RINEX converter for GNSS raw data in the application
  • Adding new features such as IMU plots etc.…
  • Perform measurement series
  • Publish the Application on Play Store
  • Discussion and Documentation of the results

 

What we expect from you:

  • Having a good knowledge of Java programming
  • Basic knowledge about GNSS
  • Basic Knowledge about IMU data, but not mandatory

 

Duration: 4-6 Months

Start Date: Immediately
