IRASSI - Infrared Astronomy Satellite Swarm Interferometry

The IRASSI (Infrared Astronomy Satellite Swarm Interferometry) project is a joint venture of Menlo Systems GmbH, TU Braunschweig Institut für Flugführung, Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie, and Universität der Bundeswehr München Institut für Raumfahrttechnik and Institut für Navigation. The projuect is funded by German Aerospace Centre (DLR).

The goal of the project is to perform a feasibility study of a formation flying, infrared space observatory mission around Sun-Earth/Moon Libration Point L2. The mission aims to characterize formation and physical properties of extrasolar planets. Universität der Bundeswehr München/ISTA is responsible for the orbit navigation design of the mission, which comprises the tasks below:

• Navigation Concept
• Algorithm Development (Absolute & Relative Positioning)
• Orbit Navigation Simulation
• Orbit System Performance

IRASSI wird durch das Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie aufgrund eines Beschlusses des Deutschen Bundestages gefördert und vom Projektträger des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Bonn verwaltet.
