Mariem Rouatbi studied Arabic and Islamic Studies as well as Iranian Studies at the University of Göttingen until August 2023. In January 2025, she completed her Master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Groningen.

During her studies, she worked as a student assistant at the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies & the Institute of Iranian Studies. Until 2022, she worked as a student ambassador at the University of Göttingen. She also participated in study excursions to Yogyakarta and Delhi.

In the spring of 2024, she worked for the Alfilm Festival in Berlin and subsequently completed an internship at the Orient-Institut Beirut. She currently lives in Tunis, where she conducted research for both her Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.

Her academic interests during her studies focused on:

  • Feminist movements in postcolonial Tunisia
  • Social movement theory, with a focus on the development of the anti-racism movement in post-revolutionary Tunisia

Since May 1, 2025, Mariem Rouatbi has been a research assistant at the Chair of Modern Cultural History of North Africa at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.
