Successful Participation in WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 in Munich

Last week, WCCM 2026 (World Congress on Computational Mechanics) took place in Munich together with ECCOMAS (European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering). Our institute was represented by 17 team members, who delivered a total of 16 presentations and contributed to the organization of eight minisymposia.

In addition to presenting their scientific work, our doctoral researchers supported the minisymposia as technical assistants. Their efforts helped ensure that the scientific program ran as smoothly as possible. In recognition of their contribution, all helpers were invited to a festive Appreciation Dinner at Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

The extensive accompanying program, including a Science Slam and the Female Researchers Chapter Event entitled “Celebrating 10 years of technical contribution, community engagement, and support for women in computational mechanics”, also contributed to the conference’s great success. We sincerely thank all organizers and helpers whose commitment made this event possible and ensured its smooth delivery.

We are already looking forward to the next congresses: ECCOMAS 2028 in Milan and WCCM-APCOM 2028 in Busan.

Preprint on Mechanical Modeling of Neurovascular Flow Diverters

Our new preprint „Mechanical Modeling of Braided Neurovascular Flow Diverters using a Beam-to-Beam and Beam-to-Surface Contact Formulation“ presents a structural-mechanics-based modeling framework for braided neurovascular flow diverters that is entirely based on open-source simulation tools.

A novel embedded mesh discretization approach for contact mechanics

Our new paper „An Embedded Mesh Approach for Isogeometric Boundary Layers in Contact Mechanics“ has been published in the journal Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering.

Alexander Popp receives ECCOMAS Fellow Award

On the occasion of the WCCM-ECCOMAS 2026 Congress in Munich, Prof. Alexander Popp has been awarded the newly established ECCOMAS Fellow Award, which was presented for the very first time in 2026 to an initial group of around 40 distinguished members of the ECCOMAS community.
