A Llamazing Institute Excursion

For this year’s institute excursion, we left the office behind and headed to Lamaland Loher for an afternoon in the company of some rather special hiking companions. The llama hike offered a particularly enjoyable and relaxing counterbalance to everyday work. In addition to spending time together in nature, we received plenty of interesting information about llamas and learned how to interact with these friendly animals. Some members of our team also revealed a previously undiscovered talent for handling llamas.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a meal at a Greek restaurant in Großhelfendorf. We rounded off the successful day with coffee and cake at a lovely café in Feldkirchen-Westerham. A quiz in escape-room style, prepared with great care and dedication and featuring several unexpected plot twists, provided plenty of entertainment.

Our work on a novel framework for goal-oriented optimal static sensor placement and dynamic sensor steering in PDE-constrained inverse problems has been published in CAMES.

IMCS at "FE ohne Schnee" 2026

Four members of IMCS participated from July 29th to August 1st 2026 in the "FE ohne Schnee" seminar which was already founded in 1985 by Professors Ramm, Stein and Wunderlich.

Preprint on Mechanical Modeling of Neurovascular Flow Diverters

Our new preprint „Mechanical Modeling of Braided Neurovascular Flow Diverters using a Beam-to-Beam and Beam-to-Surface Contact Formulation“ presents a structural-mechanics-based modeling framework for braided neurovascular flow diverters that is entirely based on open-source simulation tools.

A novel embedded mesh discretization approach for contact mechanics

Our new paper „An Embedded Mesh Approach for Isogeometric Boundary Layers in Contact Mechanics“ has been published in the journal Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering.
