Presentation at the Numerical Methods in CSE Seminar in Garching

22 Juni 2026

On June 18, Philipp Zilk was a guest at the Numerical Methods in CSE Oberseminar, which is held regularly at the Technical University of Munich in Garching. In his talk, Isogeometric Analysis near Polar Corners, he presented joint work with Thomas Apel on the numerical analysis of isogeometric methods with polar parameterizations.

A particular focus was on gradually refined meshes near polar points that are also corners of the computational domain. The results contribute to a better understanding of isogeometric methods on geometrically challenging domains. The many questions during and after the talk reflected the audience’s interest and showed that the central ideas of the presentation were well understood and taken further in the discussion.

The visit was rounded off with a stylish exit via the famous parabolic slides in the Department of Mathematics building, which can be seen in the background of the picture. The seminar is organized, among others, by Barbara Wohlmuth (on the right in the picture) and Markus Muhr. We sincerely thank them for the invitation and the stimulating scientific exchange.
