Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. habil. Matthias Wagner

has been Professor for Sport Psychology at the Department of Human Sciences since March 2020.

Professor Wagner earned his doctorate in 2009 for his thesis on motor performance in childhood and adolescence as a research fellow of the Luxembourg Ministry of Education and Research at the University of Karlsruhe. In the summer semester of 2012, he was appointed Assistant Professor for Sports Science at the University of Konstanz, where he had received the Venia Legendi for Sports Science in 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, he taught as a guest lecturer at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) on the subject of educational psychology in sports. Since the winter trimester 2020, he has been Head of Sport Psychology at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.

As part of his research, Professor Wagner deals with the psychological aspects of diagnosis, development and promotion of motor performance and physical activity in the field of exercise, health and digitalization over the lifespan. The results of his research have been published in internationally recognized journals such as Frontiers in Psychology, the Journal of Motor Learning and Development or the International Journal of Epidemiology and were presented at international conferences in Europe, Asia and America.

Professor Wagner is a recipient of the “Karl Hofmann Publication Prize for Dissertations” and winner of the “Lolas E. Halverson Motor Development Young Investigator Award” of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
