Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Johannes Pfeifer

has been Professor for Economics, in particular Macroeconomics, at the Department of Economics and Management since August 2020.

Johannes Pfeifer’s main field of work is business cycle analysis. A particular focus of his research has been on the empirical effects of fiscal policy and its contribution to macroeconomic stabilization, particularly in the presence of financial frictions. His second main research topic concerns the effect of time-varying macroeconomic uncertainty – something that is typically encountered around economic crises – on the business cycle.

Prof. Pfeifer graduated from Trier University and the University at Buffalo (USA). After obtaining a master's degree in Political Science and one in Economics, he entered the PhD program in economics of the Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE) at the University of Bonn. Following his doctorate, Mr. Pfeifer initially worked as an assistant professor at the Universities of Tübingen and Mannheim. He then joined the University of Cologne as an associate professor.

Prof. Pfeifer is a member of the development team of the open source software Dynare (www.dynare.org), a standard software for solving and estimating macroeconomic models.
