ESSEC Team at EUROCRYPT 2026 in Rome

From 10–14 May 2026, members of the Embedded Security (ESSEC) group (Dr. François Gérard, Dr. Jongyoun Park, Prof. Michael Hutter) participated in EUROCRYPT 2026, the 45th Annual International Conference on the Theory and Applications of Cryptographic Techniques, held in Rome, Italy. EUROCRYPT is one of the flagship conferences of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR) and brings together leading researchers from academia and industry to present and discuss the latest advances in cryptography.

In addition to the main conference, we participated in the MAgiCS 2026 workshop, co-located with EUROCRYPT. At the workshop, Sébastien Riou (PQShield), a partner in the FORTRESS project, presented our joint work on benchmarking ML-DSA implementations ("Apples, Oranges, and Signatures: Pitfalls and Methodology in ML-DSA Benchmarking"). The presentation highlighted a systematic methodology for evaluating the performance of ML-DSA, contributing to more meaningful and reproducible comparisons of post-quantum digital signature implementations. The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the practical evaluation of post-quantum cryptography with researchers from both academia and industry.

Iris Jimenez Selected as DAC Young Fellow 2026

We are proud to announce that Iris Jimenez has been selected as a DAC Young Fellow 2026. The DAC Young Fellows program is highly competitive, with 388 applications submitted this year. Candidates were evaluated by a distinguished award committee including representatives from AMD, Stanford University, and Johns Hopkins University.

ESSEC Team at CASCADE 2026 in Regensburg

Four members of the ESSEC team attended this year’s CASCADE conference in Regensburg from March 30 to April 1, 2026. The conference brings together international experts from academia and industry to discuss current developments and challenges in secure and sustainable IT systems.

The ESSEC team actively participated in the Shonan Meeting No. 236: “Provable Security for Trustworthy Embedded Systems Against Physical Attacks – From Theory to Practice”, held from March 15–19, 2026 at the Shonan Village Center, Japan

ESSEC team launches Cyberagentur project SPARTAQUS

We are delighted to be part of the new SPARTAQUS research project run by the Agentur für Innovation in der Cybersicherheit GmbH (Cyberagentur). The aim of the project is to strengthen the resilience of cryptographic methods for tomorrow's requirements and to develop innovative solutions for a secure digital future.

Second FORTRESS Project Meeting at CODE

On February 11–12, 2026, the FORTRESS consortium met at the CODE Research Institute of the Universität der Bundeswehr München for its second official project meeting.
