On June 4, 2026, in Málaga, Spain, Prof. Carmen Mas Machuca gave the keynote “Planning and operating secure and resilient networks” at the 2026 EuCNC & 6G Summit. This international event focuses on all aspects of telecommunications, ranging from 5G deployment and mobile IoT to 6G exploration and future communications systems and networks, including experimentation, testbeds, applications, and services. In recent years, it has attracted more than 1,000 delegates from over 40 countries worldwide to present and discuss the latest results. It also features an exhibition with more than 50 exhibitors demonstrating technologies developed in the field, particularly within EU R&I research programmes.

ITG 2026: May 19 to 20, 2026: Mr. Mirko Zitkovich and Mr. Christofer Vásquez participated in the 27th VDE ITG Conference on Photonic Networks, where they presented their work in a lively poster session. The session provided valuable feedback from researchers working across different areas of telecommunications and fostered broader technical discussions with experts in the field.

ONDM 2026 Conference: May 12 to 15, 2026: Our group hosted the 30th International Conference on Optical Network Design and Modelling (ONDM). The conference provided an opportunity to disseminate the latest academic and industrial research, addressing topics such as AI/ML-driven network operations, fiber sensing, next-generation telecommunications, and photonic networking.

ONDM 2026 Demo: May 15, 2026: Mr. Christofer Vásquez presented the demo titled “Introduction, Configuration and Application of the New TopoLib Library” at ONDM 2026. The demo allows researchers to quickly deploy, analyze, and evaluate network topologies, while also providing analytical models to generate traffic. The demo was well received and led to valuable exchanges with attendees.

ONDM 2026 Technical Presentation: May 13, 2026: Ms. Ritanshi Agarwal presented her research paper titled “Assessment of Coherent 100G PON Architectures” at ONDM 2026. The presentation demonstrated the efficiency of 100G C-PON R-OLT over alternative architectures in terms of connectivity and cost. Her work was well received by attendees.

ONDM 2026 Technical Presentation: May 13, 2026: Mr. Mirco Börner, from THM, in collaboration with Prof. Carmen Mas Machuca, took part in ONDM 2026, where he presented “Dynamic PON Consolidation Using MEMS Optical Switches for Energy Savings”. His work showed how dynamic PON consolidation can provide consistent and stable energy savings under current network traffic conditions. The presentation encouraged constructive discussions among conference participants.
