Professorship for Business and Labor Law
Prof. Dr. jur. Shirin Maria Massumi M.B.L. has held the Chair of “Business and Labour Law” at the Faculty of Business Administration since May 2022.
Shirin Maria Massumi conducts research and teaches in the field of business and labour law. Her research focuses, among other areas, on the use of artificial intelligence in business and working life and on the legal framework conditions under European law (AI Act) and German law. Her research is incorporated into her teaching through the lecture series “Innovation and Labour Law”, which has been offered at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich since the autumn trimester 2024.
She studied law at the University of Augsburg. She specialised in international business law and graduated with a Master of Business Law. She subsequently completed her doctorate on the topic “Quo vadis – Unternehmenskaufverträge? Eine deutsch-anglo/amerikanische Rechtsvergleichung” (“Quo vadis – Company Purchase Agreements? A German–Anglo-American Comparative Legal Study”) with summa cum laude at Paris Lodron University Salzburg.
Shirin Maria Massumi is particularly concerned with the interface between law and business and their interdependencies. She has acquired broad practical experience in business and labour law in law firms, financial institutions, private equity companies, management consultancies and internationally active companies.
In addition to her professional work, she has taught for many years at the Technical Universities of Applied Sciences in Rosenheim and Ingolstadt for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students, and has published on the topic of business law.
Shirin Maria Massumi works as a lawyer and understands her professorship as a close connection between professional experience gained from many years of legal practice, practice-oriented research and university teaching, in order to ensure a continuous transfer of knowledge from practice and research for the students.
Her teaching and research at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich focus on the legal framework conditions for the use of AI in business life. In this context, Prof. Dr. Massumi cooperates with Kreativ München, the central point of contact of the City of Munich for all cultural and creative entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals in Munich.
Prof. Dr. Massumi gives lectures on the legal classification of AI-generated content for cultural and creative professionals at the cooperation partner Kreativ München. The lectures by Prof. Dr. Shirin Maria Massumi address questions such as: What role does copyright law play in dealing with AI-generated content? What risks arise from the use of protected works as training data? And what opportunities arise for creative professions through the interplay of law, technology and innovation?
Prof. Dr. Massumi also gives her lectures on the legal classification of AI-generated content at other events and symposia for lawyers and interested audiences.
Prof. Dr. Massumi is a member of the Munich Bar Association and the Salzburg Legal Society.
