Professor Klaus Buchenrieder is a founding member of the SENS Research Center and holds the Professorship of Embedded Systems / Computers in Technical Systems at the Institute of Computer Engineering.

The team of the Professorship of Embedded Systems and Computers in Technical Systems works at the Institute of Computer Engineering at the Department of Computer Science and researches technical solutions for controlling complex arm and hand prostheses as well as biomonitoring methods. The goal of the team’s work is to considerably improve quality of life after limb loss or other traumatic events and to establish early stress recognition through monitoring of biosignals. Aside from developing special sensors to record vital functions and muscle activity, we are primarily interested in processing and fusing sensor signals. One focus of our research is on edge computing and AI technologies for processing and classifying signals transmitted directly from the skin. The computed results can then be used to help control prostheses or the data itself can be used directly for diagnostic purposes. Our work focuses on practical relevance and application in projects carried out and supported in cooperation with partners in industry, various authorities and the German Federal Ministry of Defense.
