What can you see on this picture and why did you choose it?

Prof. Dr. Stephan Stetter: This is the famous bridge of Mostar. I teach peace and conflict studies. The bridge was destroyed in the Yugoslavian war in the early 1990s. Then it was rebuilt. It is a world cultural heritage. It is important to not only know the general laws of the emergence and course of violent conflicts, and how conflicts can be contained. It is also important to remain curious about people in conflict regions, even after the end of a war, and to get in touch with them and learn more about distinctively local characteristics. It is the mission of international politics to contribute to peace. How this can happen, when it works and when it doesn't: this is what I pursue with enthusiasm in my research and teaching.
