Professor Dr. Ignaz Eisele studied physics at the Technical University of Munich, where he received his doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.). After working for three years as a research associate at Kansas University and Wayne State University in the USA, he worked in the research laboratories of Siemens AG before being appointed professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in 1979. Among other things, he was head of the Institute of Physics, dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and chairman of the University Senate.
His scientific interests include silicon semiconductor technology as well as components for nanoelectronics and sensor technology. Over 80 dissertations, more than 200 publications in reviewed journals and numerous patents have been written in these areas. During his time at the Institute of Physics, an ultra-modern clean room was created in which some nano-electronic component structures could be realized for the first time.
Prof. Eisele has been a member of various scientific advisory boards and supervisory boards and has been an excellent emeritus professor at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich since 2009.
He is currently head of the "Nanomaterials, Devices and Silicon Technology" department at the Institute for Microsystems and Solid State Technologies of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft (Fraunhofer EMFT) in Munich. Thanks to the excellent contacts of Prof. Eisele, the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, together with the Fraunhofer Society, was able to realize a joint appointment and a professorship partially funded by the FhG.
