Professor Dr. Jochen Schein (Plasma Technology and Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering) has successfully attracted funding for the Plasma Jet Pack (PJP) project from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.

A new technology for electrical propulsion systems for space flight, based on vacuum arc physics, will be developed as part of this EU project. A number of companies – COMAT (France), Thales Alenia Space (France), OHB (Sweden) and PlasmaSolve (Czechia) – and the French research organization CNRS serve as project partners.

As part of this project, the role of the UniBw M laboratory for plasma technology (LPT) is to provide substantial support for the development of this new technology by contributing expertise and measuring methods in the area of plasma physics.

Project period: January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2022
Funding by: European Commission – H2020-Space-13-TEC-2019
