Professor Dr. Jochen Schein (Plasma Technology and Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering) has acquired funding from the Bavarian Research Foundation for the project “New Process Technology for Aluminum Stud Welding.”

Project period: June 1, 2019 – May 31, 2021
Funding by: Bavarian Research Foundation

The objective of this research project is to expand the diameter range in aluminum stud welding with shielding gases from currently 8 mm to at least 12 mm while increasing quality and reproducibility. The idea is to magnetically impel the arc created during the welding procedure in such a way as to improve the resulting welded joint. The project is realized in cooperation with Heinz Soyer Bolzenschweißtechnik GmbH and the training and testing institute SLV Munich.
