Research interest
My main interest lies in places and material practices of democratic politics.
Strongly inspired by Science and Technology Studies, my PhD thesis was an ethnographic analysis of the Hungarian Parliament - both as an abstract institution and as a historically specific socio-technical apparatus.
As a postdoctoral researcher, I conducted a series of research projects that focused on situations in which parliamentary politics breaks down or reaches its limits. Specifically, I investigated a hunger strike by illegal immigrants in Brussels, a harm reduction program in Lisbon, and a series of initiatives by indigenous groups in Northern Australia to better understand how to do politics between hope and despair. In my habilitation, which I completed in 2023, I refer to these forms as 'melancholic democracy'.
In my current research project, I am investigating what we can learn about politics from certain waters. More specifically, I focus on the Danube as a source of ideas that challenge dominant conceptualizations of collective life.
