Mitra Moussa Nabo is researcher at the Nationales Zentrum für Kriminalprävention (National Center for Crime Prevention) in Bonn. He was a research associate at the professorship for International Politics and Conflict Research until 2017. Following his Magister program in Political Science and History in Osnabrück from 2003 to 2008, he received his doctorate in 2013 at the Bundeswehr University Munich on the (de)legitimacy of interventions by regional players in the Lebanese conflict.
Research priorities
- Sociologically inspired theories of international relations, regional security research and sociological conflict research
- His empirical or subject-related focus entails social order and societal dynamics in the Middle East (Levant and Gulf region) and issues relating to Islam and Islamism research.

Dr. Dorthe SiegmundAffiliated Researcher

Dorthe Siegmund is a Middle East expert and holds a Ph.D. in peace and conflict studies. She finished her Ph.D. thesis at the Chair of International Politics and Conflict Studies, titled: “Local peace initiatives at the intersection of global culture and conflict context: an analysis of the status and significance of Israeli and Palestinian non-governmental organizations.” As part of this work, she undertook research stays in Israel and Palestine and was a visiting scholar at the Leonard Davis Institute for International Relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. From 2021 to 2024, she headed the Heinrich Böll Foundation Palestine and Jordan based in Ramallah. Dorthe Siegmund teaches, conducts research, and gives lectures on topics including the Middle East conflict, political and social transformation processes in the Middle East and North Africa, shrinking civil society space, and international humanitarian law. She advises non-governmental organizations and political decision makers on European and German Middle East policy.

Dorthe Siegmund's research interests include: international political sociology; norm diffusion in global society and local adaptation processes; theories and methods of conflict research (especially constructivist approaches); human security
