Academic career

November 2020: PhD from the SPS Department of the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy, title: "Digital Politics Across Contexts, Social Media, Parties and Citizens: Technological Opportunities and Challenges in Modern Democracies", supervisor: Prof. Dr. Alexander H. Trechsel.

September 2015 - August 2016: Master of Research (M.Res.) from the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy.

September 2012 - September 2013: Master of Arts (M.A.) in "Social Sciences" from the University of Tartu, Estonia. Erasmus Mundus double degree with University College London, UK, awarded with distinction (equivalent to Ø1,0). Focus on post-communist change in economics and politics and its social impact. Master's thesis: "A Functional Perspective on Post-Communist Civil Society: Contentious Activities and Internet Activism in Latvia".

September 2011 - August 2013: Master of Arts (M.A.) in "Politics and Security" from University College London, UK, Erasmus Mundus double degree "International Masters in Economy, State and Society with Reference to Central and Eastern Europe" (IMESS) with the first year in London and second year in Tartu. Receipt of a merit-based full scholarship. Focus on quantitative and qualitative methods and area studies.

September 2008 - June 2011: Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in "Integrated Social Sciences" from Jacobs University Bremen. English-language basic education in political science, sociology, media studies and economics. Received a performance-based partial scholarship. Final grade: Ø 1.62.

 

Work and project experience

Since October 2019: Research Associate (PostDoc) at the Chair of Political Science with special focus on domestic politics and comparative government at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Universität der Bundeswehr München. Responsible for the use case "Elections" of the research project SPARTA [External Link] - Society, Politics and Risk with Twitter Analysis.

September 2018 - May 2019: Project leader for the German part of the EUandI voting advice application for the European Election 2019; coordination of team members, coding and evaluation of manifestos; communication with party headquarters and leaders.

November 2015 - November 2017: Co-opted member of the "Kleiner Konvent" of the Schader-Stiftung in Darmstadt; representative of the next academic generation in the central advisory and review body; preparation of the convention meeting, review of funding applications and advising the foundation on academic issues.

January 2014 - July 2015: Research assistant (third-party funding) at the Universität der Bundeswehr München; investigation of communication structures between state and societal actors in the field of structural civil protection, especially flood protection; development, implementation and analysis of qualitative expert interviews and a general population survey. 

November 2011 - May 2012: Business Insights Analyst at Onalytica Ltd. in London, UK; conducting market research for German companies in the IT and software industry. Determining brand perceptions through sentiment analysis on social media.

June 2009 - April 2010: Director General of the Bremen International Model United Nations (BRIMUN). The main organiser of the 8th BRIMUN conference, a simulation of the UN debates under the theme "Energy and Resources" with more than 150 international participants. Head of a 60-member team.
