CERN 2025
Sven Steinert and Maximilian Mudra from LPT at UniBw München, Eva Los, Bryn Lloyd, and David Cusick from University of Oxford, and Margarida Pereira from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon came together for follow-up measurements of this year’s Fireball III experiment at CERN.

Our main focus: measuring the plasma density of a ~3 m long plasma cell. This was carried out with a Langmuir probe that was designed and built by LPT. The results of this challenging measurement look promising and will be evaluated in the coming weeks.
We also had the chance to test a brand new coil design for the plasma cell, provided by LPT for next year’s experiment (Fireball IV).
It was a productive and intense week, with experiment setup, measurements and a lot of learning on the way. But beyond the science, we also found time for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and building connections across our institutions.

A special thanks to the CERN HiRadMat team –Nikolaos Charitonidis, Vasiliki Stergiou, Paraskevi Alexaki and Alice Goilllot – for the warm welcome and great support during our stay! 🚀🔬🌍
