Materials Science II

The lecture Materials Science II deals with the physical properties and applications of new materials. This includes the manufacturing processes, e.g. of single crystalline turbine blades as well as the powder metallurgical production of metallic and ceramic materials.

Chapter 2 is devoted to the material properties of steels and light metals. Especially for steels and aluminium alloys mechanisms are explained which lead to an increase in strength.

In the 3rd chapter metallic fibre composite materials are considered and applications for long and short fibre reinforcement are addressed.

The mechanical behaviour of high-temperature materials based on metals or ceramics is addressed in chapter 4 under the aspect of aerospace technology and possible future applications are discussed.
