Project description

This project deals with the examination of particle reinforced aluminum matrix composites processed with L-PBF (Laser-Powder-Bed-Fusion). It will be investigated which process parameters are required to achieve a sufficient processability. Furthermore, with respect to the chemistry of the particles, there will be tests with several kinds of reinforcing particles. Depending on the type, either a chemical reaction with the formation of a new ceramic phase is intended (in-situ reaction), or the introduced particles are aimed to remain unmelted and without significant reactions during the processing. The fabricated composites will be investigated with regard to the mechanical properties. In this context the influence of the process parameters, the particle content, the particle size and the interface strength of particle and matrix is to be examined and evaluated.
