SNADE (Smart Navigation for Autonomous Drones in Extreme Environments) is an EDF technological challenge project participating in a test campaign together with other participating projects organized by ORDEAL. The participants in the challenge address a key feature for the next generation of UAS with an increased level of autonomy and swarming capabilities, that is, the ability to navigate when GNSS availability is contested or lost and more generally to navigate in non-permissive environments. The use of various types of sensors (e.g. inertial, optical, infrared, hyperspectral, radar, LIDAR, acoustic, etc.) and intelligent information fusion are needed to provide the necessary capabilities to tackle technical and operational challenges in GNSS-denied navigation. We aim to implement and test approaches with a multi-disciplinary consortium consisting of universities and companies across Europe.
