Research Fields

The range of research and development projects at IMCS covers the entire spectrum from fundamental research to the development of our own simulation tools. Main topics are solid and structural mechanics, contact problems, coupled multi-field problems and aspects of high performance computing (HPC), with innovative and interdisciplinary applications within civil engineering and environmental sciences as well as beyond (e.g. biomedical engineering). Currently, basic mathematical research focuses on the analysis of the accuracy of numerical solutions (discretization error) for boundary value problems and for optimal control problems for partial differential equations and variational inequalities.

On this page you will find an overview of the research areas of the institute as well as current and completed projects (with both public and private third-party funding), and also some information on our most important research and industry partners.
