Research cooperation: Critical infrastructure protection

17 October 2022

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) have signed a cooperation agreement on joint research and development for improved protection of critical infrastructures in Germany.

The cooperation is underpinned by close staffing and spatial networking between the two institutions: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Popp, head of the Institute for Mathematics and Computational Simulation (IMCS) at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, will take over as vice director at the DLR Institute for the Protection of Terrestrial Infrastructures in Sankt Augustin. In addition, a new DLR field office is planned in Neubiberg - in close proximity to the university. Within this framework, scientists from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich and DLR will be able to conduct joint research on new computer-based simulation methods and AI technologies for digital twins. The interdisciplinary project RISK.twin within the framework of the Digitalization and Technology Research Center of the Bundeswehr (dtec.bw) plays a decisive role for the research cooperation with DLR in particular.
