IMCS at the university's open day - Mathematics to touch

26 Juni 2023

The IMCS participated under the leadership of Prof. Thomas Apel with the exhibition "Mathematics to touch" at the open day in our university, which at the same time represented the highlight of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University of the Bundeswehr Munich.
The creative exhibition of the math group of the IMCS attracted numerous interested people. The mathematical experiments fascinated young and old alike and the enthusiasm for the exhibits on display was clearly visible. The participants admired
  • the production of soap bubbles with edges and the associated understanding of minimal surfaces,
  • an extraordinary dice game with prizes and an insight into probability calculation,
  • a challenging puzzle and the associated question about the existence of a solution,
  • an exciting race of steel balls over different racetracks and getting to know the brachistochrone as a solution to a variation task,
  • posters and presentations on the research topics of the math group at IMCS and on the "RISK.twin" project.

We would like to thank all participants for coming and the organizers of the exhibition Prof. Thomas ApelChristof Haubner, Katharina Lorenz, Philipp Zilk and the student Ann-Kathrin Hofer for their active commitment. We would also like to thank the organizers of our university for the great implementation of the festive event. The open day including our exhibition "Mathematics to touch" was a complete success and we are already looking forward to the next edition!
