ECCOMAS European Young Investigators meet at our university

27 March 2019

On Thursday and Friday, March 22 and 23, 2019, the Young Investigator Committee (EYIC) of the European Community on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS) with Prof. Popp as chairman met at our university. ECCOMAS is the leading European scientific association in the field of computer-based simulation in engineering sciences and unites more than 20 national and regional associations, e.g. the German Association for Computational Mechanics (GACM) in Germany, under one roof.

The Young Investigators Committee (EYIC) was established to promote activities of young ECCOMAS members. Since the number of young researchers working on computer-based simulation methods in engineering has increased significantly in recent years, the committee has developed into a very active and committed coalition of young researchers. Since June 2016, Prof. Popp leads this group of European young scientists as EYIC chairman (2016-2020).

Among the most important new activities and impulses currently being initiated are the introduction of new scientific formats at ECCOMAS conferences (such as Science Slams and the Young Investigators Minisymposia), public relations and networking of young researchers through a newly established ECCOMAS Facebook group, and the preparation of a European job database for academic positions in computational engineering sciences, scientific computing and applied mathematics.
