ESSEC Team Participates in Shonan Meeting in Japan

19 March 2026

The ESSEC team actively participated in the Shonan Meeting No. 236: “Provable Security for Trustworthy Embedded Systems Against Physical Attacks – From Theory to Practice”, held from March 15–19, 2026 at the Shonan Village Center, Japan. The workshop was organized by Yuko Hara, Svetla Nikova, and Kazuo Sakiyama.

This international workshop brought together leading experts in hardware security, cryptography, and embedded systems to address the growing challenges posed by physical attacks such as side-channel analysis and fault injection. The meeting emphasized the need for bridging theoretical advances with practical implementations, particularly in the context of increasingly complex IoT and AI-based systems.

Throughout the week, participants engaged in a rich program of technical sessions, discussions, and collaborative brainstorming activities. Key topics included:

  • Realistic adversary models for physical attacks

  • Provably secure countermeasures against side-channel and fault attacks

  • Emerging threats in IoT and AI systems
