The CODE colloquium on December 4, organized by the Bayerisch-Slowenische Gesellschaft e.V. in partnership with the CODE Research Institute and the Consulate General of Slovenia in Munich, brought together experts and enthusiasts to discuss the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and its ethical implications in modern society.

In the panel discussion, titled “Responsible AI: Balancing Innovation and Ethics,” the speakers delved into a broad range of topics, from fostering fairness and accountability in AI systems to emphasizing the importance of cross-regional collaboration between Bavaria and Slovenia.

The evening featured insights from:

  • Alenka Guček, Professional Research Associate, Department for Artificial Intelligence, Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana.
  • Gabi Dreo Rodosek, Professor and Chair of Communication Systems and Network Security, Universität der Bundeswehr München, and Founding Director of the CODE Research Institute.
  • Eirini Ntoutsi, Professor of Open-Source Intelligence at the CODE Research Institute and the Institute for Data Security, Universität der Bundeswehr München.

The discussion explored pivotal topics such as:

  • The ethical dilemmas posed by autonomous decision-making systems.
  • The need for robust frameworks to ensure fairness, transparency, and inclusivity in AI applications.
  • Strategies for fostering trust in AI technologies, particularly in sensitive areas like healthcare, governance, and security.

The lively discussion was followed by opportunities for networking over drinks and snacks, creating a vibrant atmosphere where attendees connected with academics, business leaders, and policymakers to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations.
