After studying international economics and political sciences in Bremen, Arabic and Oriental studies in Hamburg and Leipzig, he graduated with a PhD in History from Bremen University.

The dissertation project focused on the Rasā’il Ikhwān as-Safā’ (10th Century AC), while researching the treaties in a long-term historical context of intellectual and history of science before and during the Abbāsid Caliphate. Parallel to teachings at German universities (history, international economics and relations, cultural studies and museology) since 1997, he had curated museum’s exhibitions, thereby, following a universalistic approach in which cross-cultural conveyances and interlacing are studied. This also holds true for my teachings, focusing on the  history of ideas, science and culture as universal heritage, whereas specific emphasis is placed on the flourishing Arabic-Islamic period and it’s traveling to Europe. My current main research interests are the history of geography, cartography and travel writings and ethics of cross-cultural understanding (philosophy).
