Postdoc for „SPACE-based Joint Communication and Sensing“

 

The University of the Bundeswehr Munich is a leading research institution in the field of air and space research. We are currently looking for a Postdoc for the topic „SPACE based Joint Communication and Sensing“ at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Institute of Communication Systems and High Frequency Technology (remuneration according to salary group E14 TVöD) full-time, initially limited to 4 years, at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich in Neubiberg.

 

The Institute of Communication Systems and High Frequency Technology is home to four professorships in the research field of information technologies in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. It is also a central component of the cross-faculty research centre SPACE (FZ SPACE), the largest university research centre for secure space technologies in Germany with more than 100 researchers. The advertised professorship is assigned to the SpaceCom Labs at FZ SPACE, where more than 30 researchers conduct research in the fields of communication networks, information transmission and signal processing in state-of-theart laboratories, a dedicated 5G campus network and a unique experimental ground station for satellite applications. Central applications are satellite communication with geostationary satellites as well as small satellites and satellite mega-constellations in the context of nonterrestrial networks (NTN) for 6th generation mobile communications and for the Internet of Things (IoT).

Your tasks:

  • Independent conception, development, management and organisation of a research group in the field of „SPACE based Joint Communication and Sensing“ in an existing, highly professional research environment with access to the necessary resources (provision of two fully financed doctoral positions as start-up funding, access to IT and laboratories)
  • Acquisition and management of further third-party funded projects from industry and competitive research funding
  • Incorporating research results into teaching
  • Publication in top journals and clear presence at IEEE flagship conferences
  • Participation in the SeRANIS lighthouse project, which is setting up a space laboratory with several satellites with 55 million euros in individual funding and complements the existing 6G research hubs in Germany


Qualification requirements:

  • Degree in electrical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, computer science or a similar field
  • PhD in electrical engineering specialising in communications engineering or related fields
  • Proven research experience and strength in IT, communication technology and satellite communication systems
  • Outstanding scientific track record
  • Proficiency in the programming languages Matlab, Python, TensorFlow, Pytorch preferable.
