content:

By perceiving projects as social systems and the observation of the increased complexity and dynamics of everyday business life and thus of projects taking place within it, the company is placed in the focus of the lecture’s considerations during the first part of the module. Basic knowledge about the functioning of a company is presented. Part 2 of the lecture presents the planning process, starting from the project management lifecycle, as well as the planning methods that come into effect. These are the module’s focal points:

PART 1: Basic knowledge in a company’s functionality

  • basic concepts of systematic thinking
  • organizational forms in the company
  • the idea of performance generation in everyday company life
  • project management in an entrepreneurial environment
  • status quo and perspectives of project management from the point of view of everyday entrepreneurial life

PART 2: Planning process and planning methods based on the project management concept

  • determination of the project organization
  • from a hierarchical structure of project goals to tasks and possible task packages
  • fundamentals of product and project structure plans and technical planning
  • introduction to project management lifecycle and sector-specific phase plans
  • application of a project flow chart
  • identification and handling of project risks
  • basic tasks in scheduling
  • network analysis as a special form of process planning
  • resource planning
  • cost planning

 

Students prepare basic knowledge in depth for each module section by means of given control questions and then present it. They apply knowledge of the lecture’s contents independently to given case studies and present them by means of a solution sketch during the tutorial.

 

qualification goals:

The project management module imparts planning principles for project work. It focuses on planning methods during the lecture cycle, with the coexistence of technical and economic sciences being a central element of the knowledge transfer. The students are thus enabled to evaluate the effects of project management methods from a technical, administrative and commercial point of view.

Goals are:

  • to acquire basic knowledge about project management methods
  • to gain the ability to clearly distinct between a structure-oriented and a process-oriented perception of a company in order to be able to analyze project-oriented company forms
  • to learn how to assess, analyze and evaluate all of the demands a contractee makes on the contractor’s performance and delivery and to understand their connection to and involvement with a project
  • to obtain knowledge about the performance of services with project character
