The realization of challenging engineering tasks requires sound basic knowledge in the natural science disciplines of mathematics and mechanics. Based on this knowledge, methods for the successful realization of planning processes for diverse engineering tasks in the fields of civil engineering, plant construction and mechanical engineering are developed in our institute. The aim of the teaching is to give students the opportunity to realize complex load-bearing structures of structural engineering by providing them with a comprehensive basic knowledge of calculation methods and design principles.

To the Institute (in German)

Teaching

Steel construction, solid construction, building construction and building physics, timber construction, prestressed concrete construction, steel and solid bridge construction, steel tank and plant construction.

Research

In addition to the development of advanced building products, the institute's research activities focus on methods for preserving the built environment and basic research in the areas of temperature and vibration. The symbiosis between theory and experiment is favored in research work. For experimental research, the institute's staff has modern experimental facilities for laboratory tests and building observations.
