Force Measurements

For force measurements in wind tunnels, fully or partially integrated weight cell systems in the test models have proven their worth. These systems are used to measure the elastic deformations proportional to the loads on the balance using strain gauges connected to Wheatstone bridges in the form of electrical voltages.
Due to their design, none of these multi-component weighing systems are free of influences from load components other than those actually to be measured. These interference effects are to be taken into account in measurements and quantitatively determined during calibration.

Various multi-component weighing systems are available. In addition, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics offers the possibility to produce special strain gauge scales for the investigation of wind tunnel models. For the calibration of multi-component strain gauge systems a calibration rig from Rollab is available.
