Completed EvaCoL 2021 project

In the summer of 2021, in a follow-up project to the EvaCoL project, students in the 2020 academic year of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (Fac. SoWi) were surveyed about their experiences with the digital academic year. In addition to the evaluation, this survey was also intended to determine which offerings from online teaching can be adopted in the future.

As of now, the final report can be requested from carmen.klement@unibw.de.

Completed HoME (Hochqualifizierte Mütter und deren Erwerbsorientierung - Highly Qualified Mothers and their Employment Rate) Project

The HoME project, that was completed in the summer of 2016, examined the reasons why, despite a generally increasing employment rate of women, many highly qualified mothers chose to stay off work beyond parental leave. Unlike less qualified mothers, highly qualified mothers expecting monetary and status gains, have for decades strongly invested in their vocational training and therefore largely achieved promising employment and income opportunities, which would, among other things, make it easier to make use of extra-familial child care services beyond institutional offers.

The study analyzed 28 guideline-based interviews with highly qualified mothers living in a major city in Western Germany and those living in a major city in Eastern Germany. It focused on gaining insight into the influence of cultural normative standards and role models passed on from earlier generations, which – in addition to labor market and socio-political circumstances – might have induced highly qualified mothers to temporarily or permanently drop out of work. Of additional interest were potential incompatibilities between the conditions of working life on the one hand and family life on the other. In some cases, they might also explain why mothers drop out of work for longer periods.
