Chair of Data Science at HAICON26

From June 8th to 11th, the Helmholtz AI Conference 2026 (HAICON26) took place in Munich. The Chair for Data Science was represented by Lena Griesbeck and Moritz Hennen. The Workshop and Tutorials Day on the 8th of June at Helmholtz Campus featured parallel sessions with nine tutorials and 15 workshops with topics ranging from training Deep Learning models at large scale, uncertainty estimations of Neural Network predictions using Bayesian principles, agentic tooling for Machine Learning and applications of parameter-efficient algorithms for the training of Deep Learning models.
The main conference, which took place at House of Communication, placed a particular focus on applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) in scientific work, for instance, in particle physics at the Large Hadron Collider or for early detection of cancer tumors in medicine. Three keynotes, eight sessions on topics such as interpretability and Generative AI, four poster spotlight talks and two poster sessions featured many discussions revolving around different topics from the broader AI spectrum. The many different formats enabled a blossoming exchange with other colleagues from the field and inspired new research ideas.
