First Workshop on “Entrepreneurial Processes and Innovative Services for Research and Teaching (EPIC R&T)”

From 27 to 28 May 2026, the first workshop on “Entrepreneurial Processes and Innovative Services for Research and Teaching (EPIC R&T)” took place at Benediktbeuern Monastery. The workshop was led by the Chair of Information Systems, in particular Digital Process Management.

The workshop focused on the question of how selected processes in research, teaching and administration can be designed more efficiently, more innovatively and with stronger cross-departmental collaboration. Together, Prof. Christoph Peters, research associates Immanuel Klein and Samuel Kühnel, study programme coordinator for Digital Administration Dr. Sebastian Spindler, and Head of the Faculty Office Dr. Eva Kasper discussed key challenges and concrete starting points for further developing processes in teaching and research.

The workshop placed particular emphasis on reflecting on existing processes, bringing in new perspectives and developing practical solutions based on entrepreneurial thinking and action.

The ideas and impulses developed during the workshop will be documented and integrated into existing decision-making and implementation structures. In this way, EPIC R&T contributes to the sustainable development of internal processes within the faculty.

Article by Prof. Peters in the journal Information Systems Frontiers with suggestions for future research on explainable AI

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in generative AI and agentic AI, have intensified challenges related to transparency and explainability. While explainable AI (XAI) research has evolved to facilitate human interaction with such complex, black-box systems, research and practice lack clarity on the causal chain linking explanations, user perceptions, and real-world outcomes, a relationship that remains conceptually fragmented. To address this gap, we conducted a systematic literature review of 107 experimental user studies on XAI. We developed a conceptual framework guided by the stimulus-organism-response-consequences (S-O-R-C) model to systematize current human-XAI research and examine how users respond to explanations. Our study contributes to the literature by clarifying how explanations shape user interactions and downstream effects in real-world settings. We propose five research directions to help navigate the challenges of emerging AI systems (e.g., LLMs, AI agents) and evolving human-AI delegation.

Inaugural lecture by Prof. Dr. Christoph Peters on June 9

On Tuesday, June 9, Prof. Dr. Christoph Peters held his inaugural lecture at the university’s Casino. Following a very appreciative welcome address by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Julia Thaler, Prof. Peters gave insights into his academic work, key research areas, and future perspectives and points of connection of the professorship in his lecture titled “Designing Human-Centered Processes and Services Using Artificial Intelligence.”

Successful participation in this year’s Tag der Bundeswehr

The Chair of Information Systems, especially Digital Process Management was represented at this year’s Tag der Bundeswehr. Alongside the many other activities on campus, we used the opportunity to present current research and transfer activities to a broad audience at the booth of the Competence Center for Digital Administration and Transformation (DIVE+).

AIMS-Salon „AI and Contemporary Security Issues“

The Chair of Information Systems, especially Digital Process Management, was represented at the latest Artificial Intelligence meets Security (AIMS) Salon on “AI and Contemporary Security Issues.”

Samuel Kühnel new to the team

Since January 1, 2026, Samuel Kühnel is part of the Chair of Information Systems, especially Digital Process Management. Samuel Kühnel completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Information Systems at the University of Augsburg. At the chair, he will work as a research associate and support the establishment of the HAIPro Lab.

Together with his co-authors, Prof. Dr. Christoph Peters has published an article in the Journal of Service Research.
